Teaching Series

How do you know what love looks like?

Maybe you grew up in a household of care and support—and you feel you have a pretty good grasp on the concept. But maybe you’ve experienced some painful relationships—and you really struggle to know what love truly is.

In this message, Jill points out the beautiful ways you can understand love as it’s described in Scripture. You’ll learn how to receive love from God and others, and how to express Christ’s love through His Spirit in you.

Scripture: John 21:1-21:17

Paul’s objective in writing the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians was not to produce a timeless Christian marriage reading or even a masterpiece of wisdom literature—though both of those things surely happened.

His concern was to instruct and develop a loving, gifted church.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13:13

Everybody is looking for some degree of acceptance. Everybody wants to have some sense of significance and to feel like they are “giving back.” In other words, we have the need to experience love and the need to express love to others.

If these needs aren’t met, it can cause us to look for love in all the wrong places.

In this message, Stuart teaches of an obtainable love that can satisfy and bring meaning to our lives—supplying comfort even during troubling times.

Scripture: John 14:15-14:31

Fathers aren’t taken too seriously in modern society. Sitcoms and the silver screen in particular often paint the family’s most prominent man as a clumsy, bumbling stooge.

Fatherhood according to Scripture, however, is a high calling worthy of all diligence, seriousness, and respect.

In this message, Stuart course-corrects our culture’s view of fathers and fatherhood, showing how God intends men to bless their families as catalysts of love, learning, and spiritual maturity.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:1-6:4

In this message taught on Memorial Day, we think of those who died in battle. We need to translate their sacrifice into an understanding of what it means to live to fight another day. Life is a battle, and no one is exempt. We’re called to fight and win.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-6:18

In this Mother’s Day message, Jill Briscoe guides us as we think about our mothers. We celebrate all the things they did right, and we are grateful. But there are some things mothers cannot do… that only God can do!

Scripture: Psalm 139

Our enemy Satan wants to rob us of the eternal life that God promised us. So in order to live in abundant life, we have to be aware of this threat and gain an understanding of his strategies.

Scripture: John 10:1-10:10

Christians who seek to live lives worthy of their high calling are aware that they are involved in a struggle. They need to be clear about the unique nature of the struggle and the way in which God plans for them to stand firm against the enemy and to win the victory.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-6:24

Whether we realize it or not, hostile forces are at work all around us. The devil is constantly trying to bring down as many people as he can. So, when we are struggling with depression, worry, low self-confidence, or fear, it’s important to root ourselves in prayer.

In this message, Jill discusses the battle between good and evil and gives us ways we can keep our prayer life strong—especially when we are in the midst of the fight.

Scripture: 2 Kings 6:8-6:23

There is a battle going on around us. Do you realize that? We are fighting a battle against the foes of the Lord. Maybe you’ve felt this battle in the giants you’re facing in life— the problems that bog you down.

Here’s the good news: God calls, equips, and empowers His servants for the good fight of faith against the giants of this world.

David’s story is a perfect illustration of God calling His people to face different giants throughout life. In this message, Jill shows us how God equipped David with everything he needed to be victorious in each battle. And if we allow Him to work through us, God will equip us, too.

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17

Starting with Jesus’ own disciples, Christians everywhere have faithfully prayed “Thy kingdom come” for more than two centuries.

But what exactly are we praying when we welcome the reign and rule of King Jesus?

In this message, Stuart illustrates the eternal power and purposes of God in the coming of His kingdom—and how it happens in your heart each and every day.

Scripture: Matthew 4:12-4:17

When Jesus cried out in agony from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?,” it was much more than an expression of the horrifying physical pain of His execution.

At that moment, Christ’s spiritual separation from God as He took on humanity’s sins and paid the death penalty for them—the first and only time he ever was separated from the Father—was beyond excruciating.

Stuart Briscoe explains exactly what happened on the cross that day, and he describes the amazing love that motivated such a profound sacrifice.

Scripture: Matthew 27:45-27:46

After Jesus was crucified, the women who supported Him were traumatized, the apostles who followed Him were terrified, and it seemed as if the incarnational project He undertook was totaled.

Most of the apostles were originally “resurrection” skeptics—and so are many people today. Peter was willing to explore the message the women brought. And he eventually came to a life-changing conclusion. Everything turned around with the discovery of an empty tomb!

Scripture: Luke 24:1-24:12

When man makes promises, he rarely follows through. God, on the other hand, can make promises the size of eternity, and He always follows through! God promised David that He would give him a throne that would never pass away. God promised to bring a new covenant to His people through David’s line, a covenant that would bring an eternity where there are no broken promises.

In this message, we learn of God’s faithfulness in His grand promises. We can trust His promises because they are based on His unfailing love!

Scripture: Psalm 41, Psalm 73-76

Fear is not only a human response we all share as human beings, but an essential one that needs recognizing, accepting, and managing. Effectively managed fear ceases to control our actions. But if unacknowledged, fear takes control, and we find ourselves caught up in varying degrees of destructive behavior.

Scripture: Psalm 27

When we pray, most of us spend a lot of time praying for ourselves, our family, and our friends. But did you know there is a lot more that God wants us to pray about?

In this message, Jill uses the story of the little pot of oil to explain how we can let the Holy Spirit guide us in our prayer life so that God can work in our lives.

Scripture: 2 Kings 4:1-4:7

When Jesus took His disciples on a retreat into the hills near Galilee, He told them about the blessings, privileges and responsibilities of being members of the “kingdom of the heaven.”

What He said is still very important to us as modern day disciples.

Scripture: Matthew 5:1-5:16

Those of us who played organized sports in school may remember a time when the race or game was not going well, and we just wanted to give up. For many of us, it was the shouts from the sidelines that kept us going. We could hear the coach shouting, “Keep going—you can do it!”

In the same way the coach keeps the team going, Christ keeps us going and guides us home. We just have to learn to turn everything in our lives over to Him. In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to let God “coach” us and find contentment in every circumstance.

Scripture: Philippians 3-4

In the midst of so much international and interpersonal turmoil, it is easy to wonder: Why is it like this? What is God doing? How can I possibly carry on in this chaotic world? These questions, incredibly pertinent today, were also asked by the psalmist of Israel several thousand years ago.

In his message “Keep Calm and Carry On,” Stuart Briscoe remembers life in World War II era Britain, and he uses Psalm 2 to confront the fear caused by the distressing circumstances of our current world with the sovereign plan of our mighty and holy God.

Scripture: Psalm 2

Keturah didn't know it, but when she hid in her family's stable that dark, star-filled night, she was in for a big surprise! Regularly cast aside because of her crippled hands, God had carefully chosen this young, Hebrew girl to be part of His miraculous entrance into the world!

The Innkeeper's Daughter is a tender, whimsical story that gives you a glimpse of what might have happened in the stable on the night Jesus was born. Written and narrated by Jill Briscoe, children and adults will be captivated by her vivid descriptions of the stable and the many unusual visitors who came. Follow little Keturah inside the cramped, smelly barn and see what she saw: talking animals, chubby angels, regal wise men, and ultimately, the King of Kings, whose coming wasn’t the only miracle that night!

Many of us fill our lives with being busy but soon find that all those activities just don't satisfy. Busyness keeps us away from taking the time to read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest God’s Word.

Scripture: Luke 10:38-11:13

To all in the world—and even many in the church—joy and godliness seem like separate pursuits. Joy is seen as circumstantial happiness, and godliness is seen as rigid rules of self-denial. But that supposes a low view of joy and an even lower view of godliness!

In this message, Stuart heralds the heights of true joy and godliness—the deep and abiding blessing at home in the heart of those like God, devoted to love and steadfast faithfulness.

Scripture: Psalm 4

What do you do when you are suffering through a hard time? Many of us sulk, complain, and feel sorry for ourselves. Others put on a strong face, but when they are alone, the fear and sadness take over, and they break down.

Much of the apostle Paul’s life was spent suffering—most of the time in jail. But unlike many of us, Paul was joyful no matter what his circumstance. This “spiritual art” of contentment was something Paul learned—and it wasn’t easy.

In this message, Jill uses Paul’s life as an example of how we can learn contentment, joy, and peace of mind no matter what we are going through.

Scripture: Philippians 1

We have an insatiable desire to control and manipulate what happens around us—all in pursuit of achieving happiness. But the truth is we have very little control of what’s happening around us, and hence little chance of finding the happiness that eludes us.

As believers in Jesus, should the pursuit of happiness really be our end goal? Do we need God to fix our happenings, or do we need God to fix our attitudes?

In this message, Stuart teaches from Nehemiah, where we learn where to find stability, security, and well-being—and discover where God wants us to focus our minds so we can rejoice and be glad, even in uncertain days.

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:1-8:10

Scripture tells a story about a widow who has run out of options on how to pay her creditors. She’s facing the real possibility that she will lose both of her young sons to slavery as a means of paying her debt. This desperate woman is out of money, out of hope, and out of faith. She’s angry at God for the situation she’s facing with seemingly no way out.

Have you ever felt that way?

How do you find peace when your faith is completely out of focus? When the sheer weight of the moment has blinded you to the Holy Spirit at work on your behalf, Jill’s message will remind you that God is sufficient. You have all you need when you have all of Him in all you.

Scripture: 2 Kings 4:1-4:7

Have you ever been with someone who seemed to have an inner joy, even in the midst of a difficult crisis? As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts, which brings incredible joy—and yet it’s true that we can lapse into feeling depressed and hopeless. So how do we keep our joy?

In this message Jill explores how you can experience joy on the inside, even when things are all wrong on the outside.

Scripture: Psalm 137, Isaiah 40

Christianity is unique in that contrary to other religions it is not primarily about mankind’s search for God but God seeking mankind. He is looking for those who will “worship Him in spirit and in truth.” But what does this mean? And why is He doing this?

Scripture: John 4:19-4:24

Christ came to seek and to save that which was lost. When we respond to Him, He comes to indwell us by His Spirit. He lives within to lend us His passion, give us His vision, and infuse a sense of mission into the very fabric of our lives. If Jesus Christ lives in you, it is His job to win souls.

Scripture: John 4:4-4:42, Jeremiah 2:13

A parable is defined as an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. And the parable of the prodigal son found in Luke 15 may be one of the most famous parables in Scripture. The story of the prodigal son is about God losing something very precious and sending His son, Jesus, to get it back. This is God’s world, and He wants it back!

Scripture: Luke 15:11-15:32

How can we live above the problems of everyday life? Habakkuk tells us how, and it’s all about getting God’s perspective. There is unspeakable joy in embracing, accepting, and submitting to whatever “burden” God has called each of us to endure. With His help, we can live above it!

Jill taught this message at a conference on the spiritual art of leadership.

Scripture: Habakkuk 1-3

It's ironic that the celebration of “communion,” which is intended to show our oneness in Christ, is actually a point of major division in the Christian church. Why is this? And why so many different names for it?

Whether it's called the Eucharist, the Breaking of Bread, the Lord's Supper, or Holy Communion, there's one central factor – it is something that was deeply rooted in the ministry of the Lord Jesus. The expectation was that down through the centuries, followers of Jesus would participate in communion at regular intervals.

In this message based on Matthew 26:17-30 and 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, Stuart Briscoe walks us through the history of the Lord's Supper. He begins with its origin in what we commonly call the Last Supper, and follows with different interpretations and practices we see in Christian churches today.

Scripture: Matthew 26:17-26:30, 1 Corinthians 11:17-11:34

The fields are ready—people are dry and waiting to hear a message of hope, meaning and purpose of life. The seed, the Word of God, is dynamic, powerful, precious and full of life. God calls those in His kingdom to share this good news. Like a farmer sowing seed, we are to be spiritual farmers generously spreading God's truth.

But why is it so hard to share our faith? Is it that we’re waiting for perfect weather before risking to go out in the fields? Or are we not seeing the lost the way God does? Are we not aware there’s an enemy circling us, seeking to thwart our plans and snatch the seed?

With attention-grabbing stories and personal insight, Jill teaches in this single message to focus on being good soil—taking God’s truth and with His watering, producing a spiritual harvest for His kingdom.

Scripture: Luke 8:1-8:15

Every day we fight battles: teaching our kids to clean up their toys, dealing with difficult co-workers or family members, getting society to clean up the environment. But even though these battles are big, there is an even bigger war going on—a spiritual one. While we know that God is the ultimate victor, we live every day surrounded by Satan’s armies.

The judge and prophetess Deborah was surrounded by not only a spiritual war but a physical one! God gave her the gifts and talents she needed to complete the task He gave her. In this message from Judges, Jill shares with us Deborah’s story and shows us how we, too, can respond to God and find our roles in this great battle.

There are many instances in Scripture where Jesus cured the sick—physically and spiritually. Can we expect that same kind of healing? Why are some people healed while others are not?

These are important questions worthy of study, but another question that is equally important to ask is: Why did Jesus perform miracles in the first place? Too often we have an inaccurate understanding of why Jesus heals. We’re so desperate with our self-interests that we miss the point of his healings—the true significance.

In this message by Stuart Briscoe, we learn what Jesus was trying to illustrate with miracle healings and discover the hope we have in overcoming our troubles and ailments.

Love is a common theme of both Christian and secular thought and interest. Because of this, Christians need to be careful to understand the uniqueness of the love that characterizes the children of God—what it is, what it does, and what it says about who we are in Christ.

Scripture: 1 John 3:10-3:24

Splinters, thorns, prickers. It doesn’t matter what they are called, they hurt and get under your skin! Life in our world is filled with thorns: difficult relationships, illness, loss of loved ones, broken promises.

The Bible tells us that even the Apostle Paul and God Himself in Jesus struggled under the bite of thorns. But God does not allow thorns in our lives without providing sufficient grace to live in the prickly mess. What Satan intends to push us down often results in pushing us to our knees in front of God’s throne instead.

How do you approach crisis? Many of us see crisis as a dead end, when, in reality, it’s a crossroads, presenting both danger and opportunity. Opportunity for what? To see what God alone can do with the most impossible situations. Jill shares how the miracle of Easter can change how you respond to crisis.

Scripture: Mark 16:1-16:8

Thanksgiving is a characteristic of the Christian lifestyle, and lack of thanksgiving is condemned by God. The English word “thanksgiving” in the New Testament is a translation of the Greek word “eucharistia,” which at its core is “charis” or grace. An understanding of grace is absolutely necessary for an appropriate response of thanksgiving. Grace and thanksgiving are inextricably bound up in each other.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:10

When man makes promises, he rarely follows through. God, on the other hand, can make promises the size of eternity, and He always follows through! God promised David that He would give him a throne that would never pass away. God promised to bring a new covenant to His people through David’s line, a covenant that would bring an eternity where there are no broken promises.

In this message, we learn of God’s faithfulness in His grand promises. We can trust His promises because they are based on His unfailing love!

Scripture: Psalm 41, Psalm 73-76

In a world of screens and social media, nearness is increasingly uncommon. Yes, we’re more connected than ever before, but comments and video calls haven’t helped our loneliness—doing little to bring us comfort.

So where do we turn when the whole world feels distant?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe draws your attention to God’s precious promises in Psalm 23. As your strong and steady Shepherd, God is intimately present in your life. He is near—always leading to you to pastures of comfort and peace.

Scripture: Psalm 23:1-23:6

It’s easy to place your faith in people, parties, and programs. But it’s impossible for all those things to sustain and uphold your heart.

When patience wears thin and genuine hope is all you long for, the “who” of faith matters greatly. And there’s no better Who than the Lord, our God.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe opens Scripture to reveal the character of our promise-keeping God. He is true, He is faithful—and there’s no better place for your faith to be than in Him.

Scripture: Hebrews 6:1-6:10

Happy New Year! This hopeful, generous sentiment is shared often at the beginning of a new year. But too often our happiness is dependent upon our happenings, and when things go wrong and curveballs come our way, happiness is gone.

So given the uncertainty of the times in which we live, how do we gird ourselves up for the inevitable disappointments we will face? How do we put ourselves together to live well in the midst of uncertain times?

Learn how as Stuart Briscoe takes us to 1 Peter for a new perspective on joy—found through the work of the Spirit in and through us.

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:1-1:9, 1 Peter 2:4-2:6

Are you living for yourself or for God? That’s a great question to answer when you’re struggling to understand God’s will for your life. He really is amazingly clear about His purpose and will for the life of the believer. But finding clarity means setting yourself apart from conventional worldly thinking and sharply focusing on God’s Word.

It’s in Scripture where God tells you the purpose for your life. He has eternal work set aside since before creation for you to do—work that blesses God and others.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe invites the resistant, the negligent, and the paralyzed believers to step into a deeper understanding of God’s will—and discover daily, with joy, what it is He wants you to be and to do.

Scripture: Ephesians 5:8-5:20

When we pray, most of us spend a lot of time praying for ourselves, our family, and our friends. Those are all good things to pray for. But there’s much more that God wants us to pray about.

Prayer allows us to interact with all three members of the Trinity at the same time and be an active participant in helping to accomplish God’s will.

In this message, Jill uses the story of the widow and her little pot of oil from the Old Testament to show us how to let the Holy Spirit guide us in our prayer life so that God’s purposes are fulfilled in the world and in our lives.

Scripture: 2 Kings 4:1-4:7

How does God want you to live your life? Although you don’t have to do anything to earn His favor, God still desires you to live in a way that glorifies Him and brings honor to His name.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe takes you to Romans 12:1-2 to share what exactly God wants you to do with your time on the earth. And as you step out in obedience—by the power of the Spirit—you’ll experience the richness and fullness of the life God has for you.

Scripture: Romans 12:1-12:2

“What is God’s will for my life?” It’s a serious question that is asked by believers of all ages facing all kinds of decisions and uncertainty. As Jill Briscoe explains, you cannot know the will of God until you find God and get to know Him personally—or at least slow down long enough for Him to find you!

God does not intend for His will to be a mystery to us. In fact, He makes it perfectly clear in His Word. What can we learn from the stories of the Bible… from how Jesus handled certain situations? A great deal!

Through this teaching, you’ll learn how you can know God’s will for your life and then begin to apply it in practical ways. Are you ready to surrender your plans if it means you will accomplish His?

Scripture: Philippians 2:13, Romans 8:27, James 4:13-4:17

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

Jesus did not say, “Come to me and I'll fill your life full of stuff.” He said, “I’ll fill it full of Me. I’ll fill it full of God, and then you will have life to the full." And that’s what Christmas is all about. We often forget that as we get busy shopping, baking, decorating, wrapping, and attending parties. In this message, Jill challenges us to keep the focus on Christ and the significance of His birth this Christmas.

Scripture: John 10:10

What does your daily schedule look like? Is it full of errands and events? Sometimes we become workaholics and worriers, filling our days with too many tasks and constant concerns about things we can’t control rather than taking time to focus on the most important thing of all. In this message, Jill uses the example of Martha to show us instead how Jesus would want us to fill our time.

Scripture: Luke 10:38-10:42

Christians who seek to live lives worthy of their high calling are aware that they are involved in a struggle. They need to be clear about the unique nature of the struggle and the way in which God plans for them to stand firm against the enemy and to win the victory.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-6:24
