A word from Stuart: Embracing each new day

Moses, who did quite a lot of living and aging in his day, wrote, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)

As you read more of Psalm 90, you see it gives us a unique opportunity to examine our aging in a life-giving way.

For instance, we’re reminded in verses 2 and 4 that compared to God, who is from everlasting to everlasting, our life on earth is like a watch in the night.

In verses 5 and 6 it says we’re like the new grass of the morning, that by evening is dry and withered. It’s true our lives on earth are frail and fleeting, which reminds us how much we need God’s gracious intervention.

And by His grace, we have hope in Christ for a life that lasts forever!

So like Moses, we can call on God’s unfailing love (verse 14) with confidence, as we seek to be glad for as many days He gives (verse 15) and pray that His deeds and His splendor be shown to our children and their children (verse 16).

Put all of this together and you’ll see the need for us to joyfully welcome aging—exploring it, embracing it, and then embarking on a heartfelt commitment to the Lord, calling on His enabling to live to the full the days that lie ahead.
