Before I came to Christ, I couldn’t imagine how life could be any better. But when I put my faith in Jesus, I discovered there were better things that I didn’t know existed. It was as if I’d lived my life on one track of a railway, and I hadn’t known that on this other track, there were thousands of things happening that other people were enjoying. How could I have missed it all?
I remember realizing that true happiness is something that happens inside us. It’s what the Spirit of God does in our heart that really matters.
I believe many believers are still living on the old track. They might attend church, but they’re living under the law. They follow the religious rules and rituals; but their marriages are a mess, they’re struggling to parent their children, they’re bad neighbors, and they can’t control their temper. The old covenant track does nothing internally to change their lives.
What they need to hear is that Jesus is the mediator of the new and superior covenant. A covenant that promises to transform us when His Spirit comes into our hearts. As Hebrews 8:10 explains:
“This is the covenant I will establish… declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
When God comes into your heart by His Holy Spirit, He writes His law deep inside your heart and soul, so you naturally want to live it out. That’s how having a personal relationship with Jesus is going to transform you—from the inside out.
