One of the things I’ve learned about God is that human beings cannot figure Him out! But that shouldn’t stop us from learning how to learn and never stop learning about God and our Lord Jesus.
In fact, Scripture tells us: “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).
And, we’re to make every effort to add to our faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:8).
How do you keep from being ineffective and unproductive in knowing Jesus? You continually add to your faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love!
How do you continually add these things to your faith? By continually learning and never stop learning about your Lord Jesus Christ!
This is discipleship, and there are two dangers that threaten to derail your discipleship: thinking you’ve arrived or feeling like you’re out of steam. Either one can leave you taking a backseat and sitting on the sidelines.
But the apostle Peter instructs you to keep adding to your faith. It’s a constant process from which you’ll never graduate or retire!
Yes, a disciple is someone who has learned to learn… and keeps on learning!
That means you never stop reading God’s Word, meditating on it, and letting the Holy Spirit reveal new and amazing Truth to you.
So whether you’re a new believer or you’ve been a Christian for decades, keep on learning. That’s how you move forward in your walk with Jesus in every season of life—and all to His glory!
