Understanding the Church

This is a 5-message series by Stuart Briscoe about what “church” means – the building, the people, the beliefs, and the activities that transpire.

God called the nation of Israel, His “treasured possession.” Or as one theologian described her, “The people which constitutes the crown jewel of God.”
The Temple of Aphrodite dominated Corinth geographically, economically, and morally. But Corinthian Jews were more interested in the Jerusalem Temple built on the ancient site...
In the Corinthian church the focus of attention was on personalities. (It could have been buildings or programs.) They needed to refocus on the Lord.
Usually when people talk about the church they are referring to a building. But the Bible talks about people being “the church of God” (1 Corinthians 1:2).
