Sermon on the Mount

Teaching from guest speaker Charles Price

On a mountainside in Galilee, Jesus preached a sermon for the ages. In it He turned every religious principle on its head, carrying His hearers from conduct to character, rules to righteousness, and laws to life.

In this series, guest speaker Charles Price gets to the heart of Christ’s Sermon on the Mount. As you follow him through Jesus’ message, you too will be carried from the expectation of external action to the blessed grace of internal transformation.

The law is not to be taken into our own hands for we must submit to the governing authorities. In this message, Charles teaches about how being driven by love and generosity, we can live godly lives in our contemporary but alien world.

Scripture: Matthew 5:38-5:48

The power of the tongue to inform, instruct, and persuade can be a power for good or evil. Truth is more than the words we speak, but the character we live.

Scripture: Matthew 5:33-5:37

The influence of what we are is deeper than what we do. We are called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world in a decaying dark environment.

Scripture: Matthew 5:13-5:16

There are certain things that are wrong about sexual behavior,  and there are certain things that are right about sexual behavior. Wholesome sexual relationships can be distorted and destroyed by improper views of sex.

In this message, Charles Price breaks down the teaching into three areas:

  1. Sex as an expression of love
  2. Sex as an expression of lust
  3. Sex as an expression of life

How do we get sex into right perspective in the whole context of life?

Scripture: Matthew 5:27-5:30

God instituted marriage as a divine ordination. Divorce is never good but was allowed by Moses as a protection from abuse.

Charles Price breaks down the discussion into three points:

  1. Marriage is a commitment.
  2. Divorce is a concession.
  3. Divorce is a protection.

Scripture: Matthew 5:31-5:32, Matthew 19:3-19:10

A wholesome life is the product of many qualities, including the discipline of maintaining healthy relationships.

Scripture: Matthew 5:21-5:26

Would you ever imagine that the commandments of the Old Covenant could become the promises of the New Covenant?

In this message, guest speaker Charles Price explains how the purpose, effect, and fulfillment of the Mosaic law reveals the end-purpose of the gospel of grace.

Scripture: Matthew 5:17-5:20
