Improving with Age

Stuart Briscoe

Aging isn’t something to be shunned or simply endured. Whether you’re a Senior, Baby Boomer, Gen Xer, Millennial, or Gen Zer, God’s Word is clear—for every day of our lives He has a purpose for us in His eternal plan. Are you willing to ask God to get a hold of your life and your heart and establish the work of your hands, even in your later years?

God has given us only a sliver of time in which He can work through us to bless humanity. In this 6-message teaching, Improving with Age, Stuart Briscoe reminds us that God has a plan for all our days and encourages us to get serious about the business of living.

Messages From This Series:

If you’ve had a birthday this year, you’re aging! But no matter how old you are, God doesn’t want you hung up on the fact that you’re another year older. He wants you to get serious about the business of living your days in cooperation with His eternal plan!

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Psalm 90 to help us let go of our worldly concern of aging and instead focus each day as another opportunity to be a part of God’s work.

Scripture: Psalm 90

None of us know how many days we have left, but we all want our days on Earth to count for something. It’s easy for us to feel like we’ve missed the mark if we evaluate our lives by worldly standards.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe takes a hard look at how even while we are outwardly wasting away, God wants us to seek things that are above so we can live well all our days.

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:5, 2 Corinthians 4:16

The Apostle Paul had the right attitude on aging. He tells us that while we are outwardly diminishing, inwardly our spirits are daily renewed. In other words, don’t focus on the physical signs of aging. Focus on the fact that every day we spend in this world, our Spirits are transforming and preparing us for the work God has for us today!

How do we grasp that concept and apply it to our lives? In this message, Stuart Briscoe looks to Scripture to help us number our days in accordance with God’s eternal plan.

Scripture: Colossians 3:9-3:10, Romans 8:11-8:21

If you’re still alive, God has a purpose for you.

In this encouraging message, Stuart Briscoe reminds us not to equate retiring with stepping away from the work God has for us. We can rise each morning and say, “I’m available, Lord, what would you have me do today?”

Scripture: Exodus 23:12-23:15

We live longer than ever before – so for many of us, the role of grandparent could span 40-50 years! What a wonderful opportunity we have to bestow love, wisdom, and a source of stability to our grandchildren who are bound to be shaken by life’s circumstances.

We should never under-estimate our role as a grandparent! The Apostle Paul even recognized how Timothy’s faith first lived in his grandmother!

In this message, Stuart Briscoe encourages grandparents in this important role and shares his own experiences to help us impact the lives of our grandchildren.

Scripture: Philippians 2:20-2:22, 2 Timothy 1:5

The church should be a place for all – the boomers, the millennials, the seniors, and the juniors. But do we revere both youth and seniors as essential elements to the church? Do we believe the principle of unity in diversity can make the church stronger?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe challenges churches to recognize and encourage the talent that lies in seniors. And he challenges seniors to rise up and show themselves as available and indispensable to the church body.
