Some people have the impression that God’s will is like the high wire in a circus. The acrobats climb the ladder to the top of the tent, where they get on the wire and put each foot meticulously in the right place. If they don’t, they slip and fall off the wire.
Friend, following God’s will is not meant to be rigid and difficult like a high wire. He’s given us His Spirit to guide us. He’s given us principles, promises, and precepts to help us walk in His ways—and they’re clearly outlined in His Word.
So, think of God’s will as like a playing field. You have boundaries, yes. And some things are in bounds and some are out of bounds. If it’s in bounds, you’re free to do it!
Our guiding principle is to live with wisdom—which God promises to give! If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God … and it will be given to you (James 1:5).
And our goal should be making the most of every opportunity—living such good lives among the pagans that … they may see your good deeds and glorify God (1 Peter 2:12).
So, feed on God’s Word, depend on Him in prayer—and ask Him to lead you in His will for your life.
