Psalm 23 contains some of the most famous verses of the Bible. I want to share a couple of them with you, and show you how through the living Word of God, you can experience true and lasting joy.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…. (Psalm 23:4)
Who do you turn to when life gets difficult? Do you go to a Bible study leader? Your pastor? Other believers? While God has graciously put all these people into our lives, we must not forget to first go to the Good Shepherd! That is where we find lasting joy.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. (Psalm 23:1–3)
Do you feel depleted? Have you lost your joy? We often do after struggling through the strains of our hectic and tiring lives. But this psalm reminds us that God restores and replenishes. He will fill you up with his joy and peace.
I pray these verses encourage you today as they beautifully apply life-giving truth in times of depression, exhaustion, internal weakness, and disorder. Take your cares to Christ, your Shepherd, first, for He is the one who can restore your soul.
And then, like David, you will be able to confidently say, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”
