A word from Stuart: The ladder of prayer

It’s a struggle for some of us to keep our prayer lives alive and effective. Sometimes we even get to the point of wondering if prayer really works.

But when we look at Jacob’s vision in Genesis 28:10-22, we see clearly how powerful prayer really is. In this dream there’s a ladder that reaches all the way up to heaven and stretches all the way down to earth. At the very top of the ladder is the Lord Himself!

And what Jacob sees is a flurry of activity. There are angels running up the ladder with prayers and down the ladder with answers. Jacob’s reaction to this activity is to say: “Surely the LORD is in this place” (Genesis 28:16).

Whatever you face here on this earth, remember there is a ladder touching from where you are that reaches the heavens, and the Lord is on top of the ladder! Wherever you are, it is possible to have a communication with God that He will respond to—at any given moment!

May we stay faithful in prayer so that we may see heaven touching earth!
