A prayer for a thirsty soul

With all the recent traumas the world has been through—and continues to go through—my mind has been drawn to the woman Jesus met at the well. She had been restless and desperate, needing God’s help.

The woman echoes some of King Solomon’s own needs in the book of Ecclesiastes—thirsting, searching for a drink of the water of life.

I think I understand, as I feel a bit like them both. I myself have been thirsty for Him. Perhaps you’ve felt this way, too.

Please, pray with me:

Thirsting for a heart that’s warm,
Thirsting for a mind that’s calm;
Thirsting for a rest of soul,
Thirsting for a well-worth goal.

Thirsting for a sense of Him,
Thirsting for what might have been.
Thirsting, thirsting, hear me cry,
“Fill me, Jesus, or I die!”

Kneeling at the well of grace,
Looking onto Jesus’ face.
In my need and in despair,
Cast myself on You in prayer.

Drawing on your love for me—
Jesus my sufficiency!

“The Lord will guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.”
 — Isaiah 58:11
