Why War?

Psalm 2 is introduced as a coronation song that originally comforted an embattled king by reminding him that “God is on the throne of heaven,” and Christians now see it pointing to Christ’s eternal rule in the midst of global turmoil. It explains that nations rage because human leaders rebel against God’s authority—“let us break their chains,” they say—and that rejecting divine restraint unleashes the evil already present in the human heart.
