The View from the Pew

It is said of the church in Jerusalem that they operated “with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people” (Acts 2:46-47).
There can be little doubt that one of the secrets we see in Acts 2 of the Jerusalem church’s effectiveness was that they “devoted themselves…to prayer.”
Christ’s final instruction to His followers to make disciples of all nations required among other things, “teaching them to obey.”
“Without the Holy Spirit, Christian discipleship would be inconceivable, even impossible. There can be no life without the Life-giver… as a body without breath is a corpse, so the church without Spirit is dead,” said John Stott.
Speaking of biblical preaching, John Stott said, “Nothing is more important for the life and health of the church,” adding, “churches live, grow, and flourish by the word of God.”
