The world is always working to press us into its mold—to shape our thinking, our priorities, and our values according to its ever-changing standards. Whether it’s the pursuit of status, success, or self-fulfillment, the culture around us is constantly influencing our minds.
But as followers of Christ, we are called to think differently. Paul tells us in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
So how does this transformation happen?
It begins with surrendering our thoughts to God. What we think about Him—His Word, His character, His will—shapes every aspect of our lives. If we allow the world to mold our thinking, our actions will follow. But if we allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds, our lives will begin to reflect His truth.
When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, His glory became visible to those around Him. That’s the same word Paul uses for “transformed” in Romans 12:2. Our renewal should be just as unmistakable—our lives reflecting the reality of Christ’s work within us.
The way we think determines the way we live. If we believe the world’s lies—that our worth is based on our success, appearance, or abilities—we will constantly strive for something we can never achieve. But if we believe God’s truth—that we are fully known and deeply loved by Him—our lives will reflect confidence, peace, and purpose.
A renewed mind doesn’t mean we will always understand what God is doing. Some things in life are past understanding. But we can know who God is. We can trust His goodness even when life doesn’t make sense. A renewed mind doesn’t mean we’ll always grasp the why, but it means we will trust who holds our future.
This is why it’s so important to spend time in God’s Word, to meditate on His promises, and to seek Him daily.
The more we immerse ourselves in His truth, the more our minds will be renewed—and the more our lives will reflect His goodness.
