Mary Magdalene, whose name means “bitterness,” was a wealthy, single woman from Magdala who became one of Jesus’ closest followers after He delivered her from complete demonic possession. Though often mistakenly labeled a prostitute, the text shows she was not the “sinful woman” of Luke 7, but in Luke 8 we learn she was  a respected, influential disciple who traveled with Jesus and supported His ministry alongside other prominent women. 1 Corinthians 6:18-7:35
