Teaching Series

It’s easy to get discouraged when we’re praying for a family member or a loved one and we just don’t see God answering our prayers. In those times, we might tend to tell God how and when He should answer the prayer instead of having faith that His answer to our prayers might be in a way or at a time that is different than we imagine—but better!

In this message, Jill gives us the example of Elijah and the widow and her son at Zarephath. Sharing her own personal stories, Jill encourages us to keep praying for our loved ones in any circumstances.

Scripture: 1 Kings 17:7-17:24

Anxiety can be described is a low-grade, ongoing feeling of dread and stress—and is extremely debilitating.  As a result of situations in which we find ourselves in the 21st Century, many people are going through life experiences that are anxiety-producing! The question is: How do we cope?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe takes us to Philippians 4, where the apostle Paul—writing from prison—spoke about how rejoicing and thanks-giving lead to an understanding of the inner peace of God. Learning to live in and experience the presence of His peace offers the answer to our anxiety.

Scripture: Philippians 4:4-4:9

One of the best known passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. It describes the relationship between a shepherd and His flock, in which He guides them through pastures, hills and dark valleys. In every case, the sheep are content because the shepherd is there, offering protection and comfort. We are the sheep in this story!

Jill Briscoe teaches that no matter what is happening in our lives, good or bad, the only way we can find true contentment—and even joy—in every situation is by trusting in the Lord, our shepherd, who promises to never leave us.

Scripture: Psalm 23

What does your daily schedule look like? Is it full of errands and events? Sometimes we become workaholics and worriers, filling our days with too many tasks and constant concerns about things we can’t control rather than taking time to focus on the most important thing of all.

In this message, Jill Briscoe uses the example of Martha to show us instead how Jesus would want us to fill our time.

Scripture: Luke 10:38-10:42

What’s the secret to a sustained, successful marriage? As Stuart Briscoe often answers, “Keep your promises and live a long time.”

That, of course, begs the question: What’s the secret to keeping your promises?

In this message from Mark 10, Stuart draws our attention to the biblical foundations of marriage—and how honoring God’s good design can encourage spouses toward a lifetime of love and faithfulness.

Scripture: Mark 10:4-10:9

People become remarkably imaginative about God.  But Scripture says, “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him, but God has revealed them to us by His Spirit.”

Not speculation, not imagination – but revelation. God is in the business of self-revelation, which is a fundamental tenant of Christianity. He has made human beings uniquely capable of receiving what He is revealing. And more than that, He has given us the ability of responding to what we are receiving.

He reveals himself, first of all, in creation. Secondly, He reveals himself in covenant, and thirdly, He reveals himself in Christ. This is how we go about discovering what God is really like.

Scripture: Exodus 34:6-34:7

When we hear the word Christmas, many of us think of all the time spent finding the perfect gifts for the ones we love.  God’s perfect Christmas gift for us was His Son.  In this message, Jill Briscoe offers us the opportunity to have our first real Christmas through accepting the indescribable gift that God has given us.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6-9:15

Jesus said it was better that He leave earth so the Holy Spirit could come. He was one body amongst the people, but the Spirit would come to live inside of us. The Holy Spirit acts as a Fire that sets our souls ablaze and gives us the power to do things that are beyond our own strength.

Scripture: John 14:15-14:20

How does God want you to live your life? Although you don’t have to do anything to earn His favor, God still desires you to live in a way that glorifies Him and brings honor to His name.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe takes you to Romans 12:1-2 to share what exactly God wants you to do with your time on the earth. And as you step out in obedience—by the power of the Spirit—you’ll experience the richness and fullness of the life God has for you.

Scripture: Romans 12:1-12:2

Faith means to believe with expectancy, but it also means to rest and trust. When we pray for healing, we’re not always certain of what God’s will is, but we can come before him with an attitude of rest and trust.

In this message Stuart Briscoe teaches from James 5:13-18 to help us understand why prayer for the sick is important, why we should pray, and what we can expect from God in answering our prayers. You’ll come away with a greater understanding about the decisive factors that make prayer work.

Scripture: James 5:13-5:18

Life is full of squalls—sudden unannounced and unexpected storms that can lead us to question if God is in control of our lives. Death, sickness, unemployment, broken relationships, fears and failures are some of the troubles Satan uses to swamp us with doubt, usually when we’re already stressed and exhausted.

How do you respond when you’re hit with the squalls of life? Are you like the disciples in Mark 4 who wondered why Jesus slept while their boat was sinking, or do you believe God is in as much control when He’s seemingly asleep as when He’s obviously awake? Do you pray, “Don’t let there be another squall”? Or do you see storms as part of God’s plan for your life?

Teaching from the Gospel of Mark, Jill Briscoe addresses the issues of suffering and faith, challenging us to examine our beliefs in God in the midst of trouble.

Scripture: Mark 4:35-4:41

We tend to think in terms of the here and now, and that’s understandable—we live here and we’re living now!  But this world is not home for believers.  If we’re too focused on the things of this world and never give a thought to living in the light of tomorrow, we won’t live well in the HERE and NOW!

This might all sound like a challenging riddle, but the Apostle Peter uses this line of thinking to warn us about the risk of becoming so earthbound and seduced by the things of this world that we lose sight of heaven.  But what does living in light of tomorrow look like?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from 2 Peter about living in anticipation of the eternal days to come, so that we can live our best life now.

Scripture: 2 Peter 3:14-3:18

We have an insatiable desire to control and manipulate what happens around us—all in pursuit of achieving happiness.  But the truth is we have very little control of what’s happening around us and hence little chance of finding the happiness that eludes us.

As believers in Jesus, should the pursuit of happiness really be our end goal?  Do we need God to fix our happenings, or do we need God to fix our attitudes?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Nehemiah where we learn where to find stability, security, and well-being—and discover where God wants us to focus our minds so we can rejoice and be glad even in uncertain days.

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:1-8:10

Romans 8:28 tells us that God works all things for the good to those who love Him.  But this promise is hard to believe when we suffer through difficult circumstances.  And if we’re honest, it seems like there’s no way God is working in all things, because much of what happens to us is totally contrary to all that God is and all that God stands for.

So where does this leave us?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe unpacks Romans 8:28 to help us come to terms with our feelings of doubt and have complete faith and hope that God really is at work in our lives.

Scripture: Romans 8:28

The driving force behind everything God does is love—His love for you.

That might be hard to believe at times, but the truth is that God, in His infinite love, foreknew, predestined, confirmed, called, justified, and glorified you!

And the ultimate display of His love is that your life journey will finish at a destination beyond your wildest dreams and vivid imagination—you will finish just like Jesus—glorified and with God in heaven.

Why would God orchestrate all of this for you?  In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Romans to help you grasp the depth of His love so you can recognize and rest in it along life’s journey.

Scripture: Romans 5:9-5:10, Romans 8:28-8:30

How are you pouring into those younger than yourself?  What kind of legacy are you building to leave for your children?  Jill Briscoe takes us to Proverbs 31:1-9 to ponder the words King Lemuel wrote fondly about his mother and the faith she passed along to him.

Whatever age or stage we’re at, God calls us to be a blessing to the next generation.  The gifts God has given us never age, and they’re supposed to be used.  Jill encourages us to start loving, teaching, and praying for the younger ones coming along.  The impact will be not only on the next generation, but for eternity!

Scripture: Proverbs 31:1-31:9

Jill Briscoe invites you to sit with her on the steps of her soul in this special holiday recording of some Christmas poems and short stories.  As winter begins to cast a long shadow on your days, Roses in December will bloom Jesus in your heart.  You’ll be drawn to the center of your relationship with God where you can focus on His love and magnificence.

(These excerpts are from her book The Deep Place Where Nobody Goes.)

Shalom means peace. It defines a type of inner peace and sense of order on the inside, even when there is chaos around us.

Our lives are full of uncertainties that lead people to suffer with anxiety, chronic worry, and sometimes sheer panic.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Philippians to show us where and how to find peace of mind.

Scripture: Philippians 3:20-4:9

One of the best known passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. It describes the relationship between a shepherd and His flock, in which He guides them through pastures, hills and dark valleys. In every case, the sheep are content because the shepherd is there, offering protection and comfort. We are the sheep in this story!

Jill teaches that no matter what is happening in our lives, good or bad, the only way we can find true contentment—and even joy—in every situation is by trusting in the Lord, our shepherd, who promises to never leave us.

Scripture: Psalm 23

When the storms of life come and the waves are crashing violently, do you find it difficult to trust that God is present and working?

Whether or not you can see Him, Jesus is walking on the water in the midst of your storm—and He’s asking you to step out in faith and trust Him.

In this message, Jill Briscoe uses the story of Peter walking on water to teach how you can learn to trust Jesus more passionately and confidently even in the midst of life’s most challenging storms.

Scripture: John 6:16-6:21

Having outlined the uncertain certainty of His return, Jesus ended His discourse with a series of stories illustrating the surprising and far-reaching ramifications of His teaching.

Scripture: Matthew 24:36-25:46

Where did the time go?

Most of us have asked this question at some point in our lives. The end of a year and the beginning of a new year confront us with the passage of time. We know time is limited and we know it is a gift, but we do not always know what to do with it. Stuart Briscoe walks us through the book of Ecclesiastes to explore this issue, embrace the times and seasons of life, and experience Life to the full.

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1-3:15

A casual reading of the parable of the widow and the judge might suggest that Jesus was saying if we go on asking God to do what we want, He will give in eventually and we’ll get our own way. A careful study of Luke 18:1-14 presents a very different picture.

Scripture: Luke 18:1-18:14

At the first Thanksgiving, there was no turkey, no cranberry sauce, no pumpkins. There was also no football nor family reunions. There was just a group of people who were grateful that they finally arrived! And that was “Thanksgiving Without the Trimmings.”

If you’ve had a birthday this year, you’re aging! But no matter how old you are, God doesn’t want you hung up on the fact that you’re another year older. He wants you to get serious about the business of living your days in cooperation with His eternal plan!

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Psalm 90 to help us let go of our worldly concern of aging and instead focus each day as another opportunity to be a part of God’s work.

Scripture: Psalm 90

None of us know how many days we have left, but we all want our days on Earth to count for something. It’s easy for us to feel like we’ve missed the mark if we evaluate our lives by worldly standards.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe takes a hard look at how even while we are outwardly wasting away, God wants us to seek things that are above so we can live well all our days.

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:5, 2 Corinthians 4:16

The Apostle Paul had the right attitude on aging. He tells us that while we are outwardly diminishing, inwardly our spirits are daily renewed. In other words, don’t focus on the physical signs of aging. Focus on the fact that every day we spend in this world, our Spirits are transforming and preparing us for the work God has for us today!

How do we grasp that concept and apply it to our lives? In this message, Stuart Briscoe looks to Scripture to help us number our days in accordance with God’s eternal plan.

Scripture: Colossians 3:9-3:10, Romans 8:11-8:21

If you’re still alive, God has a purpose for you.

In this encouraging message, Stuart Briscoe reminds us not to equate retiring with stepping away from the work God has for us. We can rise each morning and say, “I’m available, Lord, what would you have me do today?”

Scripture: Exodus 23:12-23:15

We live longer than ever before – so for many of us, the role of grandparent could span 40-50 years! What a wonderful opportunity we have to bestow love, wisdom, and a source of stability to our grandchildren who are bound to be shaken by life’s circumstances.

We should never underestimate our role as a grandparent! The Apostle Paul even recognized how Timothy’s faith first lived in his grandmother!

In this message, Stuart Briscoe encourages grandparents in this important role and shares his own experiences to help us impact the lives of our grandchildren.

Scripture: Philippians 2:20-2:22, 2 Timothy 1:5

The church should be a place for all – the boomers, the millennials, the seniors, and the juniors. But do we revere both youth and seniors as essential elements to the church? Do we believe the principle of unity in diversity can make the church stronger?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe challenges churches to recognize and encourage the talent that lies in seniors. And he challenges seniors to rise up and show themselves as available and indispensable to the church body.

We’re hungry for spectacular healing in our lives—for God to take away our infirmities in a moment’s work.

For 38 years the crippled man lay on his filthy mat near the pool of Bethesda hoping to be healed when the water stirred. Jesus sought him out and asked him, “Do you want to get well?” On the surface, this might seem like an odd question, but maybe Jesus was getting at something richly profound.

In this message taught from John 5:1-15, Stuart Briscoe discusses how when Jesus performs a spectacular healing miracle, he heals so much more than just our bodies.

Scripture: John 5:1-5:15

There are many instances in Scripture where Jesus cured the sick—physically and spiritually. Can we expect that same kind of healing? Why are some people healed while others are not?

These are important questions worthy of study, but another question that is equally important to ask is: why did Jesus perform miracles in the first place? Too often we have an inaccurate understanding of why Jesus heals. We’re so desperate with our self-interests that we miss the point of his healings—the true significance.

In this message by Stuart Briscoe, we learn what Jesus was trying to illustrate with miracle healings and discover the hope we have in overcoming our troubles and ailments.

Trials and temptations are the inevitable lot of fallen people who live in a fallen world. God does not send them, but He does permit them. Provided we handle them correctly, they serve to help us mature. But when mishandled, they can lead to great harm. The Children of Israel were a great example of this.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:1-10:22

How do you handle temptation? Do you just give in, shrug your shoulders, and say it's just the way you are? Do you give in and blame Satan? Or do you rely on God and in His power resist the temptation?

Every temptation that comes our way is an opportunity to go wrong, but it is also an opportunity to do right, and Scripture tells us that God will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. In this message, Stuart Briscoe helps us understand what temptation is and where it comes from, and he encourages us to find opportunities to do right when we’re tempted to go wrong.

Giant Temptation comes to all of us. All of us know him. He knows us—he knows when our guard is up, and he knows when we’re feeling lazy. It’s in our times of laziness that we’re faced with temptations that we’re not prepared for, and we, like David, have to choose whether to go along with the giant of temptation or to get off the rooftop.

Have you experienced a time when you've failed to overcome a temptation? Jill Briscoe shows us that the value of David's life story is not only that it shows man's great sin, but that it shows God's even greater forgiveness and grace.

Scripture: 2 Samuel 11

We learn in Scripture how God wrestled Jacob to the ground one night and turned him upside down—so he could live right-side up. Jacob became a “prince” with God instead of a pain.

When we’re suffering the consequences of our own poor choices; when we're bearing the brunt of someone's vengeance and anger; when we feel absolutely on our own and life is not working out as planned, that’s when God will turn up. He wants to walk down the stairway of heaven right into our hearts to make us aware of His personal interest and concern.

Scripture: Genesis 28:10, Genesis 32:22-32:31

Shalom means peace. It defines a type of inner peace and sense of order on the inside, even when there is chaos around us.

Our lives are full of uncertainties that lead people to suffer with anxiety, chronic worry, and sometimes sheer panic.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Philippians to show us where and how to find peace of mind.

Scripture: Philippians 3:20-4:9

So often when we talk of peace, we think of it in terms of resolving a difficult situation. The biblical understanding of peace goes much deeper than that; and thankfully so, because the reality is that we’ll never be free from hostile environments and stressful situations.

The Apostle Paul knew that and wanted us to understand the unexplainable peace that is available to believers through Jesus.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Romans 5 to explain the blessing of peace for those justified by faith. A peace unrelated to our external circumstances but related to our internal relationship with our Creator.

Scripture: Romans 5:1-5:21

Families have been under attack from the beginning of time, and they are under attack today. The devil, who hates families with complete disdain, works overtime to tear down every wall we rebuild. How do we overcome his opposition when we’re exhausted from the constant patch work?

In this message, Jill Briscoe teaches from the book of Nehemiah on where to draw strength for rebuilding our family relationships.

Scripture: Nehemiah 4:14

We read in I Corinthians 13 a clear and complete description of love. This is the type of love our world is craving. The problem is we are so confused on the subject of love, which of course, is at the root of any kind of relationship, and particularly, any kind of friendship. We need to define the word, identify the various types, explore the source, and understand the meaning of love.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13

There is no denying the remarkable impact of the Apostle Paul’s ministry on the first century, nor its continued worldwide influence. Behind such outstanding achievement there lay powerful attitudes.

Scripture: Romans 1:1-1:17

“Gospel” means “good news,” but to many people it clearly is not particularly good. The reason may be that they have not realized how bad the bad news is because they have overlooked the wrath of God.

Scripture: Romans 1:18-1:32

Paul’s sweeping denunciation of human behavior no doubt stirred up indignant reaction in some of his hearers, as it still does today. By utilizing a literary device called “diatribe” – a debate with an anonymous person – he answers the objections and shows that everyone must face the judgment of God.

Scripture: Romans 2:1-2:16

Having exposed the condition of pagan society, Roman and Greek, Paul turned his attention to the religious society of the Jewish people. Although he was a Jew and proud of it, Paul did not hesitate to expose the spiritual danger inherent in religious profession.

Scripture: Romans 2:17-3:8

The human race is severely fragmented. No one denies it although many ignore it while some look for common ground on which some semblance of unity might be built. Paul states common ground that is largely overlooked but, if properly appreciated, could work wonders.

Scripture: Romans 3:9-3:20

We have now reached one of the pivotal points of the epistle introduced by the words: “But now . . . .” After the powerful “charge” that “all are under sin” and merit divine judgment, Paul begins to outline God’s answer to the human predicament.

Scripture: Romans 3:21-3:31

We have all been taught that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but that does not mean that nothing is free. It means that if something is given freely somebody footed the bill. So it is with salvation, but man has to believe that salvation is free because God paid the price.

Scripture: Romans 4:1-4:25

Celebration and depression seem to be commonplace in our world. The former is often related to a mindless, unthinking irresponsibility, while the latter is connected to a hopelessness, which sees no solutions to life’s problems. What should be the Christian’s attitude? We should rejoice intelligently.

Scripture: Romans 5:1-5:11
