Teaching Series

Think for a moment about how you spend the majority of your day—working, attending school, raising children, running errands… Now, how do you spend the time that remains? Have you set aside time for the Lord each day? In this message, Jill encourages us to be intentional in connecting with God in all that we do and to make each moment count for Him.

John's gospel was written so that the readers "may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing (they) may have life through his name." What this believing entails and what this life involves are the subjects of our inquiry.

Scripture: John 6:25-6:59

When we are bogged down with feelings of inadequacy, or when we are burdened by expectations, it's a great time to pray. But sometimes it can be hard for us to know what to pray or even how to pray. In this message, Jill walks us through the Old Testament prayer process that was followed within the temple and compares it to New Testament times to help us understand the importance of prayer and learn how to deepen our prayer life.

Jesus spent a lot of time while He was here on earth teaching His disciples about the Holy Spirit. As a result, the New Testament is full of promises Jesus made about the Holy Spirit being our protector, teacher, and counselor.

In this message, Jill looks into John 15 to discuss how God is the vine and we are the branches.

Scripture: John 15

Living in obedience, walking after Him, and seeing people come to Christ through our Godly actions are all ways we can bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Would you say this describes your spiritual life?

This message by Jill will help you understand how to let the Holy Spirit guide your spiritual life so you will bear much fruit.

Scripture: Matthew 21:18-21:22

Whenever God does anything big, He does it through His Spirit. For example, when God created the Heavens and the Earth, He did so through the power of His Spirit. If the Spirit is capable of doing such huge things, just imagine what the Spirit can do in our lives—if we let Him.

In this message, Jill encourages each of us to examine our own life and see the fruit of the Spirit.

Scripture: Galatians 5

Have you ever wanted to have a deepened understanding of the Holy Spirit?

In this message, Stuart helps us understand the Holy Spirit from the history of the Holy Spirit being taught in the church to how we can know for sure that the Holy Spirit exists and is working all around us.

The Apostles, from whose writings we derive our information on the Holy Spirit, drew heavily from the Old Testament for their understanding of the third member of the Trinity. We need to follow their example.

In this message, Stuart looks at the meaning of the key Hebrew word for Spirit called "Ruach" and explores the scriptures of the Old Testament to teach us more about the Holy Spirit.

We can see how active the Holy Spirit is when we look at the New Testament scriptures. This is especially true when looking at the gospels and studying the life of Jesus.

In this message, Stuart looks at the role the Holy Spirit had in Jesus’ life from His birth to His baptism.

God sends His Spirit into our hearts so we can begin to walk in “newness of life.” This means that when we become believers we can be free, regenerated, and renewed. The “newness” that comes from the Spirit happens in many ways.

In this message, Stuart discusses the ways the Holy Spirit works within us.

We are called to live by the Spirit so we can overcome the desires of our sinful nature. But how do we do that?

In this message, Jill helps us understand what it means to live by the Spirit by examining the "fruits of the flesh" and then looking at the first three fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, and peace.

Scripture: Galatians 5:16, 1 Corinthians 13

The Holy Spirit can do amazing things within us, if we let Him. In this message Jill explains how we can let the Spirit change us, how we can develop the Spirit’s character, how we can respond to the Spirit’s call, and so much more. Learning these things can help us walk in the Spirit—not the flesh—so we can have a positive impact on the lives of those around us.

Paul, in his letter to the Church of Ephesus, stresses the importance of being "filled with the Spirit." When we hear this, most of us think of being "full," like being full of a liquid. But this is not the type of full that Paul was referring to.

In this message, Stuart explores Paul’s letter to Ephesus and teaches what it really means to be filled with the Spirit.

Mark Twain said, “My life has been full of many problems, most of which never happened!” He presumably looked to the future with a degree of trepidation and spent a lot of time being anxious about things that actually never happened. Does that sound like something you do, too?

Another great author, the Apostle Paul, said that no matter what happens—don’t be anxious about anything.

In this message, Stuart looks to Scripture to identify the formula for becoming worry-free, no matter what circumstance we are facing—or think we’ll have to face.

Scripture: Philippians 4:4-4:9

Jill Briscoe will freely admit that even as a Christian, she struggles with worry—and she’s not alone. Battling against worry and reclaiming the energy and abundant life that worry steals from us is a daily battle for so many people. Are you ready to learn how to rule worrisome situations and not be ruled by them?

In this message, Jill shares the turning point in her life when she finally felt the worry war pivot in her favor—and it had a lot to do with studying the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho.

Scripture: Joshua 1:6-1:11

A bewildered human race is like a man lost in a forest asking, “Father, are you there?” In 1945, at the end of World War 2, Helmut Thielicke, a brilliant theologian, preaching through the Lord’s Prayer to what was left of his congregation in the ruins of his church in Stuttgart said, “Everything will be all right so long as we hear His good voice calling to us above the howling of the wolves, above the sound of branches snapping, above the ominous noises around us. God is always there.”

A Christian worldview believes in the Fatherhood of God.

Scripture: Luke 11:1-11:5

God came in Christ to offer us forgiveness through the cross. He rose again the third day and set about bringing the world back home. “Talk to me,” says the Father. “Prayer is the means; I have made a way.” But there is a problem—we don’t know how.

Scripture: Luke 11:1, Matthew 6:9-6:14

One of the best known passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. It describes the relationship between a shepherd and His flock, in which He guides them through pastures, hills and dark valleys. In every case, the sheep are content because the shepherd is there, offering protection and comfort. We are the sheep in this story!

Jill teaches that no matter what is happening in our lives, good or bad, the only way we can find true contentment—and even joy—in every situation is by trusting in the Lord, our shepherd, who promises to never leave us.

Scripture: Psalm 23

The Declaration of Independence states that “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” are divinely imparted inalienable rights. But an honest appraisal of modern life shows that for most people happiness is fleeting, and for many it may already have fled. Is this the best we can expect?

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:1-8:10

Have you tried to carry all of your groceries into the house in one trip so you didn't have to go back out to the car? Your arms are aching, the bags are pinching your fingers, and the food is beginning to slide out. But you keep moving, hoping to get everything into the kitchen before the bags break!

Now imagine that someone in your family came out as you were unloading your bags and offered to carry them so you could sit down to rest. You probably wouldn't turn them down! Well, Jesus has made this offer—He wants to carry our burdens. We just need to say yes.

In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says:  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Scripture: Matthew 11:28-11:29

Have you ever been with someone who seemed to have an inner joy even in the midst of a crisis? As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts, which brings incredible joy, and yet it's true that we can lapse into feeling depressed and hopeless. How do we keep our joy?

In this message Jill explores how can experience joy on the inside even when things are all wrong on the outside.

Scripture: Isaiah 40, Psalm 137

In the midst of so much international and interpersonal turmoil, it is easy to wonder: Why is it like this? What is God doing? How can I possibly carry on in this chaotic world? These questions, incredibly pertinent today, were also asked by the psalmist of Israel several thousand years ago.

In his message “Keep Calm and Carry On,” Stuart Briscoe remembers life in World War II era Britain, and he uses Psalm 2 to confront the fear caused by the distressing circumstances of our current world with the sovereign plan of our mighty and holy God.

Scripture: Psalm 2
