What Is God Really Like?

Stuart Briscoe

People become remarkably imaginative about God.  But Scripture says, “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him, but God has revealed them to us by His Spirit.”

Not speculation, not imagination – but revelation. God is in the business of self-revelation, which is a fundamental tenant of Christianity. He has made human beings uniquely capable of receiving what He is revealing. And more than that, He has given us the ability of responding to what we are receiving.

He reveals himself, first of all, in creation. Secondly, He reveals himself in covenant, and thirdly, He reveals himself in Christ. This is how we go about discovering what God is really like.
