Q: Pete, I often feel like God is distant. How can I know for sure He’s with me?

There’s an incredible truth that can give you assurance that God is always with you. Galatians 2:20 teaches, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” We have been cleansed and recreated by the work of Christ. We are indwelt by Christ and in union with God—we couldn’t possibly be any closer to Him! So don’t trust your feelings. How you feel doesn’t define truth, Scripture does. You can know and believe that God is always with you, because Scripture tells you so.

Q: Stuart, how can I experience more joy and peace in my life as I walk with Jesus?

There’s a simple formula that all disciples of Jesus need to constantly bear in mind. The formula is captured in the words of a famous old hymn that says, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” The first aspect is trust in Jesus. Trust that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do. The second part is that He is our Lord and Master, and He calls us to a life of faithful obedience—always focused on His incredible grace.
