Settling for More

Pete Briscoe

Remember being a kid and begging for cotton candy? That first bite melted in your mouth, and you couldn't believe how good it was. However, there wasn't much to it, and when it was gone, it left you nothing but thirsty!

We live our lives in much the same way—pursuing things that appear to be satisfying, but in the end, have very little substance and leave us wanting more. God doesn't want us to settle for less than the abundant life He has for us. He wants us to settle for more of the things that really matter.

In Pete's series, Settling for More, he challenges us to look at specific ways we are depriving ourselves of God's best in our work, prayer life, worship, relationships, and faith. Using practical examples, Pete encourages us to embrace the verse, "Not I, but Christ" (Gal 2:20 KJV), the secret to finding greater joy and contentment in our lives.

Messages From This Series:

  1. 1. Settling for More in My Walk

    Pete Briscoe

Do you ever feel burnt out in your Christian walk? Maybe you've done all the right things. You've read the Bible every day and you've volunteered at church events, but you still feel like there just has to be more. What's missing?

In this message, Pete explains the dramatic difference it can make in your life when you choose to make Christ your everything instead of simply your helper.

    Scripture:  Galatians 2:20

  2. 2. Settling for More in My Relationships

    Pete Briscoe

Many people would say that the relationship they have with their spouse, sibling, or best friend is something that is very special and important to them. Some may even say that their relationships “fulfill” them. But that was not God’s intent. God wanted relationships to enhance our lives, not fulfill them.

In this message, Pete looks at the relationships in Jesus’ life so that we can follow His example and make good decisions concerning our relationships.

    Scripture:  Mark 3:13

  3. 3. Settling for More in Prayer

    Pete Briscoe

Prayer is simply a conversation with Jesus. What's important is the content of that conversation. In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul talked about prayer and listed three things we should pray for concerning our devotional life.

In this message, Pete shows us how we can apply those to our lives in hopes of experiencing a more abundant prayer life.

    Scripture:  Ephesians 3:14 - 3:21

  4. 4. Settling for More in Work

    Pete Briscoe

Have you noticed society seems to define people by what they do for a living? Even though followers of Christ know this shouldn't be the case, we can fall into this and other wrong attitudes about our work.

Using Scripture as his guide, Pete Briscoe examines what our true motivation for work should be and what attitudes can hurt or help us in being who God wants us to be.

    Scripture:  Colossians 1:25

  5. 5. Settling for More in Our Worship

    Pete Briscoe

How do you feel about worship? Maybe you should ask yourself this question: Do you go to church to worship, or do you come to church worshiping? The latter should be what we strive to do.

In this message, Pete explains three biblical principles about worship that will help us deepen and strengthen our worship of Christ.

    Scripture:  John 9:35 - 9:38 , Matthew 14:22 - 14:33
